Please be reminded that dogs and other pets must be restrained by a
proper leash and accompanied by their owner when visiting the
cemetery grounds, and remember to “Stoop & Scoop” after your
pet.
In
accordance with the Municipality's Cemetery Regulations By-law:
Flower
beds are permitted in front of upright monuments and markers located
at the head of the lots, but must not exceed 18 inches in distance
from the monument/ marker base. Also, beds are not to exceed
the monument/marker width. Therefore, flowers/ plants/shrubs,
etc. are not permitted behind the monument as the rights to this
area may belong to other individuals or the Municipality. If
you have any shrubs/plants/flowers located behind your monument or
family monument, please undertake to have such shrubs/plants/flowers
removed.
All
annual flowers must be removed or cleaned up by October 15th of each
year.
Artificial
wreaths and flower arrangements must be removed before April 1st of
each year. Trees and shrubs should be maintained.
The Municipality pours foundations for monuments twice a year.
The first pouring is completed the first week in June in order that
monuments can be placed in time for Father's Day. The second
pouring is completed the last week in September in order that
monuments can be placed in time for Thanksgiving weekend.
When
making arrangements for interments and in the Dorchester Union
Cemetery, please keep in mind the following regulation as outlined
in the Municipality's Cemetery Regulations By-law (No. 81-2004):
"Notice
of each interment to be made shall be given to the Cemetery Manager/
Cemetery Assistant Manager at least sixteen (16) working hours (2
business days) in advance for summer interments (Apr 1 - Nov 30),
except under special circumstances. The Cemetery has the authority
to request twenty-four (24) working hours (3 business days) notice
in advance for winter interments (Dec 1 - Mar 31). The Municipality
cannot be responsible for having lots prepared for funerals unless
such notice is given."
