How To Join - Memberships and Renewals
Please note that members must be age 50 or over. The membership fee is $15.00 (includes GST) per person.  Membership renewal is every January. If you would like to become a member, please drop by anytime Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. We look forward to meeting you

The Lions Senior Centre is located at 2066 Dorchester Rd and is attached to the Community Centre and Arena Complex.

It’s difficult to say goodbye to someone who you really respect, admire and enjoy working with.  Linda Egan & I have worked in Thames Centre for the same amount of time (10 years).  Wow, that’s a long time & it’s been a pleasure to know Linda.  She’s a talented writer & editor and a cool person to talk to.  I’ll miss you Linda!  Good luck in your future endevours.

Come on into the centre & help make bed pads for cancer patients on August 25 at 12:30 p.m.  You’ll have fun pinning, sewing and chatting for the afternoon.  There will be treats & coffee at break time.  See you there!

See you at the concern August 28.  It should be a good one!

The centre will be closed September 6 for Labour Day.  Enjoy the long weekend with family & friends.

There will be a seniors’ meeting in Thorndale on September 6 at 12:30 p.m. at the Lions Hall.  It’s a pot luck lunch.  Bring your favourite dish.

Get your tickets for Apple Fest on September 13 at 12 noon in the arena auditorium.  Menu: honey baked ham, scalloped potatoes, harvest vegetables, apple dumplings, tea/coffee and juice.  “Second Childhood” (Wally & Elaine Gray) will be here to entertain you following the meal.  It’ll be a delightful afternoon.

The fall courses begin the week of September 13 including: yoga, Tai Chi, quilting, knit/crochet lessons, computer lessons, digital camera lessons, bridge/bridge lessons, euchre, bid euchre, square dancing, pole walking, line dancing, choir practice, carpet bowling and much more.  Call 519-268-2025 for more information and to register for your favourite courses.

Senior bowlers needed!  Every Monday beginning September 13 at 1 p.m. there’s seniors’ five pin bowling at Fairmont Bowling Alley.  For more information call Irene Sanderson at 519-268-8364.

Jennie Vassallo will be at the centre on September 21 at 1 p.m. to do a presentation about “Ideal Protein”.  It’s a healthy eating program specially designed for people who are diabetic and for those wishing to loss weight.  Jennie will be talking about the program & giving free samples of the food.  Please call 519-268-2025 to sign up for this informative session.

The shopping trip to St Jacobs on Thursday, September 23 is filling up fast.  Enjoy a leisurely day shopping & having lunch at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market.  You’ll depart from the Manor in Thorndale at 9 a.m. and from the senior centre in Dorchester at 9:30 a.m.  After a fun day in St Jacobs Country the bus will pick you up at a designated spot at 3:00 p.m. and bring you back to your village.  Please call 519-268-2025 or sign up at the Manor or at the Centre as soon as possible.

Crafts will be September 29 at 10 a.m.  You’ll be helping to make tables favours for the Thanksgiving hot meal.  I’ll be calling everyone on the list but if you’d like to join in we’d be happy to have some more helpers.

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the corn fest on August 19 a success.  A special thank you to Gord “corn” Lewis who prepared the corn.  Thank you Gord!

Community Euchre

These fun evenings will continue every Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $3.00 per person. Please contact the Centre for more details on this activity.

Craft Group (Craft and Chat)
This class is held the when scheduled from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 p.m.  Participants of this class will make decorations or party favours for the centre events i.e. Hot meals, Socials etc.  Instructor: Karen Gress

Hot Meals
Join the group for a delicious hot lunch served the second Wednesday of every month.  It's only $9.00 for a full course meal including dessert & tea/coffee and entertainment (Bingo every other month).  Call 268-2025 for more information.  Purchase tickets as soon as possible.

Special Event Luncheons
Lunches are held on certain Mondays at the Centre and everyone enjoys an excellent meal, along with great fun. The cost is $6.00 per person. Please contact the Centre for more details.  Please purchase your tickets as soon as possible.

Pole Walking
1st class: 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. - 2nd class: 2:15 p.m. - 3:15 p.m.  What is Urban Poling?  Urban Poling is a sport that combines the aerobic and strength building benefits of cross-country skiing with walking.  Classes run for 8 weeks.  In the arena auditorium or outdoors weather permitting.  The class is $15.00 for members & $25.00 for non-members.  Pay as you go $3.00 for members or $5.00 for non-members.  The poles are included for this beginner class.  Benefits include: 20 - 40% higher caloric expenditure for weight loss, 25% increased cardiovascular workout, highly effective for core muscle strengthening, reduced impact on knee/hip joints and increased stability & balance.  Evening class on Tuesdays from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.  Class in Thorndale on Wednesdays from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m.

Computer Lessons for Beginners
(including instruction on the internet)  Lessons are held on Mondays & Wednesdays 1 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Classes run for 5 weeks at a cost of $50.00 for members and $60.00 for non-members. Prices include GST.  Instructor: Janis Baines.

Thorndale Area Seniors
The Crumlin 50 Plus Club  meets every 3rd Monday of each month at the Crumlin United Church for a Pot Luck lunch at 12:30 p.m. followed by entertainment or a speaker. A contribution of $2.00 each per month is the only membership fee. The 50 Plus Club does not meet in the summer months of July and August. All seniors are welcome to join this friendly group by dropping by the church on the meeting day.

Senior Choir
New voices are always welcome in this choir. If you enjoy singing then come and join this fun group every Friday from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. with Mary Kaiser as the leader/pianist.

Quilting
This class is held every Monday from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30pm. Mary Tenkate and Joanne Smulders will instruct this program. $2.00 for members and $4.00 for non-members. Exciting outings: Shop & Hop

Bridge
Come for a morning of fun and friendship. Tuesday's from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The cost is $2.00.

Knitting & Crocheting Lessons
Every Monday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.  Members  $2.00 and $3.00 for non-members.

Pepper (Cards)
Join us every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for a fun evening of Pepper.  There is a lunch served and the whole fun evening will only cost you $3.00.

Pilates
This class runs for 8 weeks.  Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  The cost is $45.00 for members and $55.00 for non-members.  Instructor: Leslianne Holmes.  Pilates is a method of exercise endorsed by physicians for almost a century.  It has become one of today's most sought after workouts that helps strengthen and condition muscles, reduce and eliminates back ache, dramatically improves posture, flexibility and balance as well as getting you on your way to long, lean, toned muscles and a flat stomach.
