MUNICIPAL HERITAGE COMMITTEE

In accordance with the Ontario Heritage Act, the Council of a municipality may, by by-law, establish a Municipal Heritage Committee to advise and assist on matters relating to Part IV, being Conservation of Property of Cultural Heritage Value or Interest; Part V, being Heritage Conservation Districts; and other heritage matters as the Council may specify by by-law.

At its meeting held on June 4, 1995, the Council of the Township of North Dorchester enacted By-law No. 18-95, being a by-law to establish a Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (L.A.C.A.C.) and provide for the appointment of members thereto.

At its meeting held on June 28, 2010, the Council of The Corporation of the Municipality of Thames Centre enacted By-law 40-2010, being a By-Law to establish a Municipal Heritage Committee and provide for the appointment of members thereto. The Municipal Heritage Committee replaced the L.A.C.A.C. and therefore By-law No. 18-95 was repealed.

At its meeting held on January 23, 2017, the Council of The Corporation of the Municipality of Thames Centre enacted By-law 6-2017, being a by-Law to repeal By-law 40-2010 and to re-establish a Municipal Heritage Committee and provide for the appointment of members thereto; and to revise the election of a Secretary from amongst the membership to instead have a Municipal Staff Person act as the Secretary for the Committee.
