New EV Charging Stations Are Now Online in Thames Centre

Municipal EV Chargers Will Be Free to Use for One Month

THAMES CENTRE – Deputy Mayor Sharron McMillan and Environmental Advisory Chair Danielle Lockie were joined by representatives from NorthCharge and Aviva Canada to officially open new electric vehicle charging stations for public use.

The new charging stations are located at the FlightExec Centre and the Municipal Office on Hamilton Road.

“These new charging stations provide Thames Centre with more infrastructure to support the use of electric vehicles in our community,” noted Deputy Mayor Smibert. “Thanks to the generous Charged for Change grant funding provided by Aviva Canada and Earth Day Canada, these charging stations were installed with minimal expense to taxpayers.”

The Charged for Change grant provides $125,000 in funding to the Municipality. The total project cost was $144,866.

First Month Free

NorthCharge will be managing the operation of the charging stations going forward. Residents will be able to charge their vehicles at no cost for the first month of operation (until November 3rd).

After this promotional period is over, the cost will be $0.30/kWh, which works out to $2.25/hour at 7.5KW speed. Customers will be able to manage payments and charging via the NorthCharge app (available for free at the Google Play and Apple Stores).

The Charged for Change EV Infrastructure Project is funded by Aviva Canada in partnership with Earth Day Canada under the Charged for Change Program.
