Marriage License Application Form

The Municipality of Thames Centre offers marriage licensing by appointment only. In order for you to obtain your marriage license, only one of the applicants needs to attend, in person, at the Municipal Office between the hours of 8:30am and 4pm.

The license fee is $140.00, payable by cash or debit only. No personal cheques or credit cards are accepted. This fee is non-refundable. The marriage license is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

Before you get married, you need to be aware of the following:

Licence is only valid in Ontario for 90 Days from the date of issue.
The Municipality of Thames Centre offers online applications in collaboration with ServiceOntario. Please send completed application to shenshaw@thamescentre.on.ca or it can be submitted through mail or dropping it off in-person at our office or using our drop box.
Once review, a staff member will reach out to schedule an appointment to purchase your license.

You will need two pieces of government-issued identification for each person getting married. One piece of identification must include your photo.

Examples of government-issued identification:

Government-issued birth certificate, including any change of name certificates
Valid Passport
Record of Immigrant Landing
Canadian Citizenship Card
Valid Driver's Licence
Valid Ontario Photo Card

An appointment is required for issuing a marriage license.

Appointments will be scheduled within 3-5 business days of completing the application.
With an appointment, if you have the required identification and supporting documentation, it will take approximately 20-30 minutes to process your application and issue the license.

Upon completion of a wedding ceremony, to obtain your marriage certificate from the Registrar General, one of the parties must apply.

Apply online through Service Ontario

If one or both of the applicants applying for a Marriage License has been divorced, and the divorce was granted within Canada, the original or a certified true copy of the Decree of Absolute or Certificate of Divorce is required.

Divorces granted outside of Canada require Registrar General authorization. Please visit the Service Ontario Website for more information.

If one or both of the applicants are remarrying after the death of a spouse, you must upload or submit in-person to the municipality, one of the following for each applicable applicant:

Death Certificate of Spouse
Funeral Director's Statement of Death
Court order declaring that your spouse has died
