TCFD Issues Order to Close for Trails End Market
Trails End Market Must Close Until Fire and Life Safety Risks Are Corrected

THAMES CENTRE – The Thames Centre Fire Department has served an Order to Close for the Trails End Market (the building located at 4370 Dundas Street in Thorndale.)

The Order to Close was reviewed and approved by the Office of the Fire Marshal. Copies of the Order to Close have been posted at the premises.

Following multiple inspections of the property by TCFD and other regulatory safety agencies, and consideration of the serious fire and life safety deficiencies identified at the premises, Inspection Orders TC-26-007 and TC-26-008 were issued pursuant to Section 21 of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997, S.O. 1997, c. 4 (FPPA).

Under the terms of the Order to Close, the building is to remain closed until the corrective actions set out in Inspection Orders TC-26-007 and TC-26-008 have been satisfied. The Department will require a follow-up inspection before authorizing the premises to be reoccupied.

The Thames Centre Fire Department recognizes that the closure of a building is a serious measure; however, the conditions observed during inspection process require such a response due to the fire and life safety concerns identified. The life safety of the public, the vendors, and the regular occupants of the building remains the Fire Department’s highest priority. 

A previously existing building at the same location, then known as the London Sales Arena, was destroyed by a serious fire in 1993. The current structures in place at 4370 Dundas Street exhibit many of the same issues identified when the previous building was destroyed in 1993.
