The Thames Centre Fire department is composed of trained paid-on-call firefighters who promote public fire safety and protect the lives and property of our citizens. Firefighters are dedicated to responding to 9-1-1 calls related to fires, medical emergencies, and rescues.

Firefighter Recruitment
Are you passionate about giving back to your community? Do you enjoy learning valuable skills that help others in times of need? As a volunteer firefighter with Thames Centre, you’ll not only gain the satisfaction of making a difference, but you'll also have the opportunity to educate the public on fire safety, emergency preparedness, farm safety, and more.
Qualifications
To become a part-time firefighter, you must:
- Be a Canadian citizen or have legal entitlement to work in Canada
- Be a resident of Thames Centre
- Have a high school graduation diploma (OSSD) or academic equivalent
- Committed to continuous training in fire suppression, prevention, and emergency procedures
- Hold a valid drivers license and capable of responding to an emergency
- Must be able to attend regular bi-weekly scheduled training
- Must be willing to become a Certified Firefighter (NFPA-1001, Level 2)
Duties
Every day, firefighters are called to serve the public and protect citizens in a time of crisis. This process involves:
- Preventing, combating, and extinguishing fires
- Answering emergency calls
- Operating and maintaining fire equipment, apparatus and quarters
These duties require extensive training in firefighting, technical rescue, hazardous materials and emergency medical care. You will need to operate apparatus and perform dangerous assignments in emergency conditions.
